On April 20, Congressman Anthony Brindisi (NY-22) invited Upstate New York students to participate in his 2020 Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition.
All high school students who live in New York’s 22nd Congressional District are eligible to enter.
Hosted by the House of Representatives, the Congressional Art Competition is an annual event that allows high school students from across the country to showcase their artistic talents.
The winning submission from each Congressional District is hung in the U.S. Capitol for a full year.
“Upstate New York is home to incredible artistic talent, and it makes me proud to see a piece of home hanging in the halls of the United States Capitol,” Brindisi said in a press release. “I can’t wait to see this year’s winning piece.”
Entries must be original in concept, design and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws.
Accepted mediums for the two-dimensional artwork are as follows: paintings using oil, acrylics, watercolor for example, drawings including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink, and markers, collages (two dimensional), prints such as lithographs, silkscreen and block prints, mixed media, computer generated art, and photographs.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, submissions will be collected digitally at [email protected].
“Our country is in a crisis right now, but we will get through this together,” Brindisi said. “It is important to remember that American ingenuity, creativity, and hard work will help us move forward. Those attributes are highlighted in the Congressional Art Competition as well. This contest will provide young Upstate New Yorkers, and high school students around the country, with an outlet for their creativity during these difficult times.”
Artwork must be submitted with a completed copy of the competition release form to [email protected] by Wednesday, May 6.
Students must email a picture or scanned copy of their artwork along with the release form by the above deadline.
