The Lysander Town Board held its organizational meeting Jan. 2, welcoming its two newest elected officials, Supervisor Bob Wicks and Town Councilor Jeff Kudarauskas.
At the work session preceding the town board meeting, the board discussed the possibility of moving its meeting date back to Monday evenings. Under Supervisor Joe Saraceni, the board began meeting on the first and third Thursday evenings of the month, which is when the Baldwinsville Village Board of Trustees meets.
Councilor Roman Diamond suggested the move back to Monday evenings, but Deputy Supervisor Bob Geraci said he had already made travel plans for 2020 based on the current meeting schedule. Councilor Peter Moore, who is a teacher, said Thursdays work better for his schedule.
Wicks said Lysander Town Court takes place Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, and the Lysander Planning Board meets on the second Thursday of the month.
“Are daytime hours totally out?” asked resident Jim Stirushnik.
“Now I like that idea,” Town Clerk Dina Falcone said.
Wicks said three town councilors — Kudarauskas, Moore and Diamond — have daytime jobs.
The board ultimately decided to stick with the current meeting time for 2020 and possibly revisit the issue for next year.
Wicks said he plans to host office hours on certain Saturdays so constituents who work during the week can meet with him.
Also at the Jan. 2 work session, Geraci brought up the town’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which was approved in 2016. Town Engineer Al Yager said the CLUP recommends the town review or update the document every five years.
“This would coordinate well with the Local Waterfront [Revitalization Program] grant we just received from the state,” Yager said.
The village of Baldwinsville and the town of Lysander are participating in the LWRP. The town of Van Buren declined to participate.
Yager said a previous town administration put together a CLUP committee consisting of town officials, developers, Baldwinsville Central School District officials, residents and representatives from the village of Baldwinsville and Van Buren.
Town officials said the CLUP is important in guiding Lysander’s goals for smart development and protecting the town’s rural, agricultural character.
