To the editor:
I have had the pleasure of knowing Roman since 2008 as a sophomore at Baker High School where I taught social studies. He contacted me not long ago to ask if I would endorse his candidacy as he runs for re-election on the Lysander Town Board. This was an interesting request as I happen to be a born and bred liberal Democrat, and Roman is a conservative Republican. Roman and I have had multiple long, deep conversations about our respective political persuasions, beginning when he was 15 continuing through his senior year and on to lunch this past spring. While he never persuaded me to become a Republican and I never persuaded him to become a Democrat, he possesses the poise, dedication and integrity necessary to serve the public good.
It is, indeed, heartening to know that in this time of political uproar and turmoil a young man like Roman, Eagle Scout, dean’s list graduate of Oswego and former member of the Baldwinsville school board (while still a student there, I might add), sees fit to work and serve on the Lysander Town Council. We will never see eye to eye politically, but his dedication to public service is unquestioned.
