There were two clear winners in the Clay Town Board candidates’ primary for the Independence Party line, but third place is still up in the air.
Kevin Meaker, an Independent cross-endorsed by the Clay Democratic Committee, and Republican Brian Hall took the top two slots. Republican candidates Naomi Bray and Ryan Pleskach, however, each received 23 votes.
Dustin Czarny, Democratic Commissioner for the Onondaga County Board of Elections, said absentee ballots will be counted Tuesday, Sept. 19.
“Right now, we have three absentee ballots in that we’re opening on Tuesday,” Czarny said. “I assume — I hope — that the tie will be broken. We may have more come in by Tuesday.”
Czarny said the Board of Elections sent out eight absentee ballots for the Clay Town Board primary.
“If that tie is not broken … that spot goes blank and then the Independence Party has three days after we certify the election to [present] a certificate of nomination for a candidate for their choice,” Czarny said.
The election night results of the Clay Town Board Independence primary are as follows:
- Naomi Bray: 23
- Brian Hall: 29
- Kevin Meaker: 35
- Ryan Pleskach: 23
