To the editor:
A Dunkin’ Donuts drive-thru has been proposed for the heart of the village of Liverpool on Second Street. On March 21, the mayor and trustees rewrote the law to accept this, despite objections from residents, warnings of the Onondaga County Planning Board and traffic statistics provided by the state DOT. This was to be reviewed by the Village Planning Board on May 23; it was not.
On April 16, the mayor and village trustees voted to abolish the Liverpool Village Court on a supposed cost-savings basis. They did not even have costs figured before the vote. They did not solicit input by the residents. In response, 26 percent of our fellow villagers have signed a petition putting this on the ballot for June 21.
These are issues not only of what the Mayor and Trustees have done, it’s how they have done it: without the people, without the facts and over reasonable objections. The office of trustee should be held by a person that can be exactly that: trusted to listen. And that is why I am announcing my candidacy for the office of village trustee.
I am Bradley Young, and I have lived in the village for about 19 years, along with my wife Shalinda and my son Wellington, an Eagle Scout. My career in sales necessitated an exceptionally high degree of listening and suits the position of trustee well. I respectfully ask for your vote on the Resident’s Party Line this coming June. Please do vote on June 21, and when you do, vote for Brad Young!
