Despite the plan to reduce the Manlius Planning Board from seven to five members being rejected last month, the Manlius Town Board has decided to approve some of the written regulations and procedures that were included in the draft of that local law.
The section of the local law that would reduce the planning board has been taken out, said Town Attorney Tim Frateschi, but several other sections of the local law are being included because they were seen as beneficial to have by the town board.
“The local law, as we discussed, has several regulations. I have asked this board to consider passing the same local law because it didn’t only include reductions of the planning board, but some other things I think are important that we consider in implementing, like training and selecting the board chairman,” said Fraateschi. “We already do those but there’s not necessarily a formal process for it.”
The local law also allows the town board the option to implement an alternate member in the case that a regular planning board member was not available for an extended amount of time, said Frateschi.
The local law did not have to be put to a public hearing, said Frateschi, because there was already one held when it was first being addressed.
“I like having this in for future [town] boards,” said Supervisor Ed Theobald. “We may not ever use the option of the alternate member, but a future board may look at it and think it will be beneficial.”
The town board voted unanimously to approve this updated draft of the local law.
Also at the meeting, the board:
—Voted to put the replacement of windows in the town hall out to bid for companies. According to Doug Miller, engineer of the town, most of the windows within the Manlius Town Hall are in need of replacement in order to be energy efficient. The estimated cost of the project will be somewhere around $150,000, said Miller. Theobald said this project is being funded through a grant from Sen. John DeFrancisco for the improvement of municipal buildings.
—Approved a fireworks permit for the village of Fayetteville, for the Sept. 19 Fayetteville Festival at Beard Park.
