The town of Salina has entered into an intermunicipal agreement with Onondaga County for summer recreation program funding. The town board approved the motion at its Nov. 24 meeting.
Previously, Salina received funds from New York state for summer programming, which includes arts and crafts, “Zoo to You” activities through the Rosamond Gifford Zoo.
“The state decided to send the money to the counties, and then the counties can decide if they want to send the money on down,” Comptroller Greg Maxwell explained.
Supervisor Mark Nicotra said the town last received $3,100 from the state for summer programming. He said the amount the town has received has dwindled in the last few years.
Maxwell said that under the state’s agreement, the town sent in payroll records from summer activities for reimbursement.
“Whether the county’s going to take it as simple as sending in a payroll, I don’t know,” he said.
According to the agreement, which was included in the town board’s meeting agenda attachments, the town of Salina must maintain records of the recreation services and documentation for children who participate in them. The county may request monthly claims information for reimbursement.
