The DeWitt Police Department has reported that one of its sergeants attended to a stabbing victim after witnessing an automobile crash in East Syracuse over the weekend.
While traveling eastbound on West Manlius Street at around 2:15 a.m. on Nov. 28, the sergeant observed as the vehicle passed through an intersection and collided with a telephone pole near West Manlius and Kinne streets.
As the sergeant drew closer, a male – later identified as Kamerin Farrier, 22, of Wyandanch, New York – exited the driver’s side, proceeded toward the sergeant’s vehicle covered in blood and stated he had just been stabbed, police said.
The DeWitt sergeant located a stab wound on Farrier’s chest and began to perform trauma care, the media release states. Farrier was then transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The DeWitt Police Department Criminal Investigations Division discovered through witness statements and review of closed-circuit television footage that Farrier had gotten into a verbal dispute with a man named Ortez Madison, 41, of Syracuse, while at the Byrne Dairy located at 326 W. Manlius St.
During this dispute, Madison stabbed Farrier in the face and chest according to police. Farrier then got into a vehicle and attempted to drive to a hospital, at which point he crashed into the telephone pole.
The investigation division located Madison’s vehicle at an address on Grant Boulevard in the City of Syracuse.
At about 10:28 a.m., with the assistance of the Syracuse Police Department’s SWAT Team, Madison came out of the residence peacefully and was taken into custody without incident. A search warrant was executed at this residence, where further evidence was secured.
Madison was arrested and charged with manslaughter in the first degree and criminal possession of a
weapon in the third degree.
Madison was arraigned and was remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center on no bail.
