The New York State Police has been investigating numerous stolen vehicle complaints in the towns of Clay and Lysander.
During the overnight hours of Jan. 7 and 8, a 2011 Chevy Equinox was stolen from an address on Bear Road in the town of Clay, and a 2016 Kia Optima and a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck were stolen from residences on Drumlin Heights Drive in the town of Lysander. Every one of these incidents has one thing in common: The vehicles were all left unlocked.
State Police would like to remind residents to lock their vehicles when you exit them and to not leave valuables in plain sight. Thieves are historically looking for an easy target as seen in numerous home surveillance videos. If the car door is locked, they will move on until they find one that is not.
Please help us put the brakes on automobile theft and remember to lock your car, take your valuables inside and never leave keys or fobs in the car.
