The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a recent telephone scam involving an automated message directing people to call the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office Civil Department and or Chief about an “ongoing civil matter.”
According to the sheriff’s office, the imposter/scammer is spoofing the sheriff’s office phone number to make phony calls. The Sheriff’s Office Civil Enforcement Division stated that they will not contact citizens by phone to settle a civil matter. Therefore, if you, a relative, neighbor or friend, receives one of these calls they are advised to hang up immediately.
The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office states that they never solicit or make these types of phone calls, and if a citizen receives a telephone call involving this type of scam or any other type of scam, to never provide any personal information or credit card numbers to the suspect.
