Cazenovia police are investigating an attempted robbery and assault that occurred shortly after midnight on Monday, Sept. 25 on Forman Street when a male Cazenovia College student was attacked by two other males.
While walking down the sidewalk on his way to Lakeside Park to meet friends, the victim was followed by one male while a second jumped out of the darkness and grabbed him. The attackers tried to steal the student’s cell phone; one man held the victim while the other tried to grab the phone from his pocket.
The victim was also stabbed with a sharp object in the stomach, which caused superficial wounds, according to police. The victim fought against his attackers, and they ultimately ran off towards the Cazenovia High School parking lot.
CAVAC was called and treated the victim at the scene.
The victim did not get a good look at his attackers but said one was wearing an orangish/blue ball cap, a dark jacket and long pants, while the second attacker was described as wearing long pants and a hoodie sweatshirt.
Cazenovia Police chief Michael Hayes said investigators are currently following up leads in the case. He asks that if anyone was on Forman Street around midnight on Sept. 25 and saw the attempted robbery or the two alleged attackers, to call the Cazenovia Police Department at 315-655-3276. Leave a message if an officer does not answer the phone. All calls and tips will remain confidential.
