One Cazenovia and three Chittenango stores had employees arrested for selling alcohol to minors during a recent state police Underage Drinking Initiative in Madison County.
Ryan H. Berte, 27, of Cazenovia; Joann M. Haynes, 59, of Chittenango; Leandra M. Whaley, 22, of Chittenango; and Sherina D. Philo, 31, of Canastota, all were arrested Sept. 30 and each charged with prohibited sale of an alcoholic beverage and unlawfully dealing with a child in the first degree, both misdemeanors, for selling alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
Each of the people arrested allegedly sold alcohol to a state police operative without ever asking him to provide any form of identification or confirm he was of age to make the purchase.
Berte was employed at the Cazenovia Rite Aid, 93 Nelson St. The three women were employed, respectively, at A&E Liquor, 239 Genesee St., Kinney Drugs at 540 Genesee St. and Sav On at 603 Genesee Turnpike.
The establishments checked during the Underage Drinking Initiative and found to be in compliance were:

•Xtra Mart: 135 Albany Street, Cazenovia.
•Red Apple: 122 Albany Street, Cazenovia.
•Kinney Drugs: 41 Albany Street, Cazenovia.
•Tops Market: 800 West Genesee Street, Chittenango.
•Rite Aid: 1365 West Genesee Street, Chittenango.
•Nice-N-Easy Grocery Shoppe: 1305 St Rte 5 Chittenango.
•Byrne Dairy: 298 Genesee Street, Chittenango.
•Nice-N-Easy Grocery Shoppe: 3388 Seneca Turnpike, Canastota.
