East Syracuse — DeWitt Police announced the arrest of two Syracuse residents in connection to an armed robbery that occurred the morning of Jan. 17 in the parking lot of Ramada Hotel in East Syracuse.
Officers report that the victim Asif Khan, of Liverpool, had rented a room for the night at the hotel at 6477 Baptist Way with several friends and as he was leaving at about 9 a.m., he was approached by two males, one whom he was acquainted with.
Police say the unacquainted male was holding a black folding knife and threatened the victim with it, and the two suspects then demanded Khan empty his pockets. They stole two gold chains and Khan’s cell phone, and then police say they demanded more and punched Khan in the face before leaving the scene.
Officers arrested Jimmy Ellerbe, 21, of Syracuse, and charged him with robbery in the first and second degrees, menacing in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree and conspiracy in the fourth degree. Ellerbe was arraigned and held at the Justice Center on $25,000 cash or bond.
Police also arrested Preston Fagan, 17, of Syracuse and charged him with robbery in the first and second degrees and conspiracy in the fourth degree. He was held at the justice center on $5,000 cash/$10,000 bond.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear in Town of DeWitt Court on Jan. 25.
