Manlius — The Town of Manlius Police Department reported that on Saturday, Jan. 16, officers made two arrests in connection with a check cashing scheme where the suspects used stolen information to cash forged checks.
On Jan. 16, Manlius officers responded to a suspicious incident at the Chase Bank located at 329 Fayette St. in the village of Manlius. Police report an officer passed a vehicle on Fayette Street and attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the involved vehicle, but the vehicle did not comply and fled from officers. After a brief pursuit, officers were able to locate the vehicle and the two occupants were taken into custody.
The suspects arrested were Casey L. Silin, 33, and Angela Postell, 43, both of Pompano Beach, Florida. Further investigation into the pursuit revealed that Stilin and Postell attempted to use personal identification information that was stolen from vehicles parked at the Skaneteles YMCA on Friday, Jan. 15, to cash a forged check at the Chase Bank in Manlius.
Silin and Postell both were arrested and charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree and two counts of criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree.
In addition, Silin, as the driver of the vehicle, was charged with unlawful fleeing of a police officer in the third degree, reckless driving, unlicensed operator, failure to comply with lawful order and five counts of failure to stop at a stop sign.
Silin and Postell were arraigned before Manlius Village Justice Joseph Greenman and both were remanded to the Onondaga County Justice Center with no bail.
