VILLAGE OF FAYTTEVILLE – An eyelash studio recently opened up in Suite 6 of the Fayetteville Square plaza at 511 E. Genesee St.
Boasting the slogan “good lashes, good mood,” Lash Up Studio is operated as a place meant to boost the mood of whoever walks in by making them feel beautiful, confident and satisfied.
Sunny Yang, the Liverpool resident who opened it on May 15, moved to the Syracuse area in April from New York City, where she was also an eyelash technician. This Fayetteville studio, however, is the first-ever styling studio she has owned herself.
Stressing that store-bought false lashes do not last as long, Yang said her business helps clients achieve the “perfect look” they want with natural eyelash extensions, lash lifts and facial waxing.
As her customers lie down on beds under the light of the lamps in the studio, they peer over a menu and choose what exact look they’re going for. She said she mostly has women as her clientele but that she welcomes in anybody needing a touch-up.
The menu includes curlier, thicker or straighter options in different shapes and measures depending on what the client desires, all as enhancements, not replacements.
Yang’s approach is to use tweezers and professional glue to add the extensions two or three at a time on top of and alongside the lashes people already have to make them appear fuller. She then uses other makeup techniques to “bring their eyes out to look bigger,” like the darkening of eyebrows.
The eyelash shapes include a standard natural one that has the lashes retain the same length all the way across. Another, the cat’s eye, has the lashes start low and rise up left to right from the outer corner of the eye, while the doll eye is a mixture of longer and shorter lashes and the open eye has the lashes curl up from both sides.
To make the eyes look increasingly dramatic and voluminous with “more pizzazz,” people can go with anywhere from 60 pieces per eye to 180 pieces per eye.
The studio also provides after-care guidance advising clients to dry their lashes on a cool, low setting, clean them with a gentle foaming cleanser and use oil-free beauty products. There are also recommendations to avoid sleeping on one’s stomach, picking or pulling the lashes, or getting them wet for 24 hours.
Lash Up Studio is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
