LIVERPOOL — The intruder or intruders who burglarized the Sugar Blossom Cake Shop cannot be pleased with their take.
“They tore out the cash drawer, but that only had a few coins in it,” said co-owner Kaleigh Ligoci.
Various foodstuffs were also stolen from the bakery located at 304 Tulip St.
The burglary occurred overnight Thursday, Jan. 13, and/or Friday, Jan. 14. Entry was gained after a brick was thrown through one of the shop’s back windows.
“That was really the worst of it,” Ligoci said. “There was glass all over the place.”
Being victimized by a crime can be disturbing, but Ligoci remains upbeat.
“At least no one got hurt,” she said.
Liverpool Police Chief Jerry Unger said his department is prioritizing its investigation into the cake shop break-in.
“That level of crime is not a usual occurrence in the village,” he observed.
The chief confirmed that the intruder(s) took “some proceeds” from the shop, but he would not specify an amount. Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office personnel assisted the LPD in gathering and processing evidence at the scene.
“But I really can’t say much at this point,” Unger said. “We’re still investigating.”
LPD Det. Robert Marshall is coordinating the case.

Ligoci and her business partner, Lauren Scarpelli, opened the Sugar Blossom Cake Shop in December 2020, across the street from the Cobblestone tavern.
They specialize in custom cakes but also offer French macarons, specialty brownies and bars, cupcakes, cookies and cake slices as well as coffee and tea.
