LIVERPOOL — No doubt this winter’s rough weather is battering your roof.
You might consider having the professionals at Capital Home Improvements assess the damage and do the needed renovations. They’ve been securing roofs all over Central New York since 1985, and now the company’s Liverpool headquarters is housed at the former Kashani Gifts location, smack dab in the center of the village business district at 512 Oswego St.
Custom Design Center
Capital Home’s Custom Design Center is able to offer one of the best warranties in the industry on roofing installation. This versatile local general contractor can help you with roofs, insulation, siding, windows, decks and awnings, chimney repair, masonry, hardwood flooring, kitchens, remodeling and new construction.
These folks know that your roof is more than just shingles. It’s a complete system that also requires hip and ridge shingles, ventilation and waterproofing. Each of these elements plays an important role in protecting your home, and they work together to ensure the beauty and durability of your roof. Hip and ridge shingles add dimension and interest to roofs while protecting the ridge line; integrating with ventilation products to prevent moisture condensation in the winter and heat in the summer to prolong the roof’s life.

Pizza Villa dark
Is Liverpool’s Pizza Villa a victim of the pandemic? The popular pizzeria and fish fry at 409 Tulip St., at the corner of Oswego Street, has been dark for the past few weeks. I know I’m not the only one craving the Villa’s Greek gyros and Italian calzones and garlic knots. Here’s hoping Pizza Villa fires up its ovens again sooner than later…
Editor’s note: According to post on a post on the Facebook page of Pizza Villa, the business decided to close temporarily due to COVID-19 on Feb. 7 and the post says Pizza Villa looks forward to seeing customers when they reopen.
Laxman joins DPW
Former Cicero-North Syracuse High School lacrosse star Jason Meigs has been hired as a public maintenance worker for the village of Liverpool’s Department of Public Works. The village board officially approved Meigs’ hiring at its Feb. 16 meeting, as requested by DPW Superintendent Mike Neverette.
Meanwhile, Neverette is putting an old 2008 DPW truck out to bid, while purchasing a 2021 model Chevrolet truck to replace it. It’s going to look a bit different from the ’08 model, because the 2021 truck is painted white instead of blue.
If Elvis had lived…
In my Feb. 17 column I wrote about Michigan author Sally Hoedel who has presented readers with a spellbinding account of Elvis Presley’s short life. She maintains that it wasn’t the drugs that killed The King, but a plethora of inherited medical maladies.
In her book, “Elvis: Destined to Die Young,” Hoedel offers convincing scientific evidence supported by plenty of in-person interviews with people who personally knew Elvis.
A few of my readers scolded me for neglecting to mention that Presley was scheduled to perform two concerts in CNY the week after his death in Memphis on Aug. 16, 1977. Fact is that Elvis and his entourage were booked Aug. 19 that year in Utica, and Aug. 20 at the War Memorial in Syracuse. Sad.
‘Con Moto’ nominated
Speaking of music, you probably saw my recent story about Bill DiCosimo’s and Edgar Pagán’s new compact disc, “Con Moto.” Now I’m pleased to report that the funk-filled disc produced by Yellowjackets bassist Jimmy Haslip has been nominated for a Syracuse Area Music Award, in the “Other Styles” category. Like everything else these days, the Sammys are going virtual when they announce its winners on March 5; syracuseareamusic.com.
