This spring, Cazenovia will welcome two new businesses to its downtown district.
Earlville’s HeartStone Artisan Bakery and Bouckville’s Cobblestone Trading Company have partnered to open a shared shop at 11 Lincklaen St.
Amy Yahna and Brian Musician — owners of HeartStone Bakery on Alambria Springs Farm — have sold their products at the Cazenovia farmers’ market for several years.
According to Yahna, the decision to open a retail store was made in response to ongoing requests from customers in Cazenovia, Hamilton, Manlius and Fayetteville.
“Our customers have been asking for years for HeartStone to open a shop,” Yahna said. “The timing was finally right and we were lucky enough to locate a perfect little shop in Cazenovia to share with Cobblestone.”
The bakery produces around 35 varieties of naturally fermented sourdough bread and an assortment of hand-made pastries. HeartStone uses a long, cool fermentation process and bakes in a traditional wood-fired oven.
The baked goods are produced using mostly organic, whole grain and stone milled flours from Gianforte Farms in Cazenovia, Farmer Ground Flour in Trumansburg and Champlain Valley Milling Corp. in Westport. All additional flour is obtained from King Arthur Flours.
The bakery uses Kriemhild Dairy Farms grass fed butter in its pastries and locally sourced organic milk, free range eggs, and local fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs whenever possible.
The new, shared shop will receive daily deliveries from the HeartStone production bakery.
The shop will offer rotating varieties of bread and other baked goods such as pain au chocolat, chocolate and almond croissants, danishes, tarts, babka, cinnamon rolls, soft pretzels and cookies, coffee, tea and more.
Cobblestone Trading Company, established in 2018, is an “Old Fashioned Country Store” located at 3300 Rt. 46 in Bouckville.
Housed in a cobblestone building constructed in 1844, the store sells a variety of specialty goods and rustic- and Americana-style antiques.
In Cazenovia, Cobblestone will offer fine olive oil and balsamic vinegars, with free tastings, spices, salts, New York State cheese and sausage, pesto, relishes, honey, maple syrup, locally made fresh pasta and a number of other specialty foods.
According to Cobblestone owner Barry Hutchinson, the relationship between his store and HeartStone developed as a result of the friendship between Cobblestone’s General Manager Elizabeth A. Aliasso and Yahna.
Both Hutchinson and Yahna agree the partnership between the two businesses makes perfect sense.
“Great bread and great olive oils and vinegars belong together,” Hutchinson said.
The shop is scheduled to open mid-June. Its hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
