One of Central New York’s oldest and best known veterinary practices has been sold and the former owner has announced his retirement.
Fayetteville Veterinary Hospital at 8122 East Genesee Turnpike has been operating under the ownership of Dr. Edward B. Chapman for the past 26 years. Recently, Chapman turned the practice over to Dr. Michael Bunnell, an Auburn native who has spent the past eight years in veterinary practice in Syracuse.
“This was passed along at the right time, it needs a shot in the arm and Mike is the one to do it,” said Chapman, a past president of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. “He’s a great vet.”
Fayetteville Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1962 by Dr. James Marshall, who specialized in large animal medicine on area farms. Over the years, the practice began to include small animals. There are currently 15 employees on staff.
“I’m happy the practice is healthy and moving on and taking care of patients I used to — and their grandmothers and grandfathers,” Marshall said.
“We have a very loyal client base, and of course we welcome new ones,” Bunnell said.
The practice will remain in the same building and maintain the same staff it always has, Bunnell said, what will change under his ownership will be a “revitalizing and updating” of the medical equipment.
Fayetteville Veterinary Hospital serves clients from communities across the Syracuse area, including Fayetteville, Manlius, Liverpool, Marcellus, Jamesville, Pompey and Cazenovia.
