Morrisville State College softball shortstop Holly Gamlen, of Cazenovia, added another academic accolade to her storied career as a two-sport student-athlete, becoming the college’s first student-athlete to receive Capital One Academic All-District 3 first team honors, as presented through Co-SIDA.
Gamlen, a first team selection, will now move on to the Academic All-America Team ballot, with first, second and third team honorees to be selected later this month.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.30 on a 4.0 scale, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his or her institution.
The junior is majoring in human performance and health promotion at Morrisville State with a 3.95 GPA, and is a two-time North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) All-Conference selection at short stop.
Earning NEAC Scholar-Athlete accolades for both field hockey and softball, Gamlen was also honored by the NFCA as a NFCA/Easton Scholar-Athlete in the fall for softball, again a first-time accolade for a student-athlete at Morrisville State.
She is a two-time selection to the NFHCA / Zag Division III National Academic Squad for field hockey, and this fall was honored with NFHCA/Zag Division III Scholar of Distinction accolades. Gamlen is also a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) All-Academic and Commissioner’s List honoree.
Gamlen wrapped up her junior season with a .330 batting average, recording 29 hits, three doubles, eight RBI’s, five stolen bases and scoring a team leading 16 runs.
A graduate of Cazenovia High School, Gamlen is also an all-conference selection for the SUNYAC in field hockey. She is the daughter of Tammy and Fred Gamlen of Cazenovia.
