On Labor Day, as most Cazenovia students were enjoying the last day of summer, Cazenovia High School Senior Caeli Carroll competed in the finals of the talent showcase at the New York State Fair and won third place for performing a musical theater style tap dance duet.
The talent showcase, which had a “Mini” (12 and under) and “Maxi” (13 and over) division, qualified contestants who placed in the top 25 acts at counties from across the state. Each of the first eight days of the fair, acts competed for places in the semi-finals. There were approximately 80 acts that advanced in the mini and maxi divisions in the semi finals.
On the last day of the fair, the top 25 acts in each division competed in the finals. The top 10 places were announced and the top five places received cash awards.
Carroll competed in a musical theater style tap dance duet with Madison Lynch of Vernon. Of the hundreds of acts that started the competition, they were awarded third place and a cash award of $300.
Also recently announced state fair winners were:
- Jackie Maier, of Cazenovia, won a second place ribbon for her apple strudel, third place on her scones and an honorable mention for her empanadas in the culinary competition.
- Susan Reeve, of Cazenovia, won first place for savory pastries, second place for favorite recipe using New York state potatoes and third place for throwback 1950s recipe in the culinary competition.
