Daniel Meyer, owner of Meyer’s Towing, is the winner of the 2012 Order of the Towman Award sponsored by American Towman.
Meyer was nominated for the award by the police department for his years of dedication in Camillus and to other police departments across Central New York. He has been a towman for the Camillus Police Department for more than 25 years.
Meyers was recognized during the American Towman Annual Awards Banquet held Saturday, Nov. 17.
“Mr. Meyers is the go to towman for the Camillus Police Department, either for routine tows or complex tows,” Camillus Captain Steve Rotunno said during the ceremony. “Dan will get the job right the first time, and in the most professional way possible.”
Sergeant Burlingame said Meyer is a true professional that is willing to go the extra mile.
“In the event of a crime scene where a vehicle has been towed, Dan takes the extra time to assist officers in their collection and preservation of evidence,” he said.
Camillus police said the following attributes contributed to Meyers’ award:
He is instrumental in the West Genesee High School Impaired Driver simulation on the morning of the senior ball.
He participates in the annual Onondaga County Lights on Caravan, which is the largest and oldest in the country. The purpose of this annual event is to honor and remember victims of drunk and drugged driving and to remind all drivers of the dangers of impaired driving at anytime, especially during the holiday season.
He is a very active member of the Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisory Board. Safety board members are consistently seeking ways to improve traffic safety issues in Camillus and throughout Onondaga County.
