Messy Play: Unstructured Exploration | Friday, September 2nd at 10:30 AM: Join us in the library’s yard for open-ended, child-led playtime. Children will explore a simple mud kitchen, clay sculptures, and bubble blowing. Adults may want to bring a lawn chair to relax as children play. Please wear clothes and shoes that are weather appropriate and can get dirty. Unless there’s a chance of a storm, Messy Play will be held rain or shine. For ages 3 – 7.
Sit ‘n Stitch | Tuesday, September 13th from 2:00 – 3:30 PM
Love to knit, crochet, embroider, quilt, cross stitch, etc? Bring your WIP (work in progress), meet new friends, and connect with old ones! While this is not an instructional class, learn from the wisdom of others and share ideas. The Sit ‘n Stitch group will meet on the second Tuesday of every month.
Library Board Meeting | Tuesday, September 13th at 6:30 PM: The Library Board is made up of community members who volunteer their time and skills to further the mission of the library. All meetings are open, and the public is welcome to attend.
Friday Film: Where the Crawdads Sing | Friday, September 16th at 7:00 PM: American mystery thriller drama based on the 2018 novel where a woman who raised herself in the marshes of the deep South becomes a suspect in the murder of a man she was once involved with. Rated PG-13; run time 125 minutes (2022).
Elementary School Book Club | Sunday, September 18th at 2:30 PM: This month we’re reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. Each month we’ll read a book or graphic novel and then get together to chat and do an activity. For kids in grades 3 – 5. No registration.
Afternoon Book Club: Band of Sisters by Lauren Willig | Monday, September 19th at 1:00 PM: Join us on the 3rd Monday of every month to chat books! Community Conversations: How to Avoid Scams & Fraud | Friday, September 23rd at 10:00 AM:
Skaneateles Police Chief, Scott Heggelke will share helpful tips and hints on how to avoid various kinds of scams out there and how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud. He will also discuss how to spot red flags that may indicate a fraudulent encounter and what to do if you or a loved one are targets of a scam. There will be plenty of time for Q&A and conversations with Chief Heggelke at the conclusion of the program.

Guitar Concert: Kenneth Meyer | Saturday, September 24th at 7:30 PM:
The Washington Post calls Kenneth Meyer “A thinking man’s guitarist – he focuses on the inner structure of a piece…and plays with impressive gravity and power.” Since winning the national first prize at the MTNA Collegiate Artist Competition, Meyer continues to appear in recitals, as a chamber musician and soloist with orchestra in venues throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Currently, Meyer directs a thriving guitar studies program at Syracuse University’s Setnor School of Music and continues to be a featured lecturer, performer, adjudicator and teacher at festivals, colleges and universities throughout this country and abroad. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music and records for Innova Records.
Learn American SIgn Language Series | Sundays, September 25th to October 30th at 2:00 PM: Learn a new language this year! Join our very own Mary Ellen Tornatore to learn the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) through games and simple interactions. This introduction to ASL will give students a foundation for the language, including the alphabet, numbers, colors and greetings. A portion of the class will be devoted to deaf culture and understanding how a deaf person functions in a hearing world. All materials will be provided. Participants are expected to attend all 6 sessions. For Teens & Adults. Registration required.

This month we’re reading A Vanished World by Anne Sneller. Participants have the option to join the discussion either in-person at the library or virtually via Zoom. Manhattan Short Film Festival Screening | Friday, September 30th at 1:00 PM OR 7:00 PM: The Manhattan Short Film Festival is the world’s first and only global film festival. Local movie lovers, along with audiences in more than 500 cities spanning 6 continents, can simultaneously view and judge 10 never-before-seen short films from all over the world. All films are Oscar-eligible, and finalists from past years have included Oscar nominees and winners in the short film category. The total screening runs about two hours, and each film has a 30-second introduction from the director. All participants can vote for Best Film and Best Actor. Don’t miss this unique international event!
