Baltimore Woods Nature Center Announces Virtual Amphibian Migration Program
Marcellus, NY (April 23, 2020) – Spring has arrived, and with it comes a symphony of night song from wood frogs and spring peepers. Although the Central New York community is currently spending the majority of time staying healthy at home, the natural rhythm of nature continues, during the day and at night. Warm rainy nights in spring bring frogs and salamanders out of their winter slumber and trigger mass migrations to their breeding waters. Baltimore Woods Nature Center Naturalist Tom Meier takes viewers to Labrador Hollow for a virtual experience to witness one of the true wonders of spring. From April 25th through May 2nd, local community viewers can visit baltimorewoods.org and sign up to receive a free, 40-minute virtual Spring Amphibian Migration program led by staff member and Naturalist Tom Meier.
In light of this challenging time, we are glad to offer this programming free of charge to remain a resource for our community to connect to nature. Those wishing to make a donation to Baltimore Woods Nature Center can do so online during the registration process. To sign up to receive a viewing invitation, visit baltimorewoods.org.
In the coming weeks, Baltimore Woods Nature Center plans to continue releasing several new virtual programs in an effort to continue connecting the local community to the natural world. Since the Interpretive Center closed to the public in mid-March, the staff has launched Nature in Your Hands at Home, a new series of web pages on their site designed as a resource for families and individuals who might be missing trips to favorite places or looking for ways to stay engaged in the outside world from the confines of home. The site includes weekly videos about animals and other nature topics, nature poetry, nature journaling prompts, activities, games, and stories read-aloud.
