DeWitt Town Supervisor Ed Michalenko declared a state of emergency for the town that went into effect at 9 a.m. April 19 and will extend for the next 30 days unless otherwise rescinded or extended by the supervisor.
“I hereby find that the current coronavirus pandemic has created emergency conditions which I find threaten or imperil the public safety of the citizens of the Town of DeWitt,” Michalenko wrote. “I hereby direct all departments of the town to take all those steps necessary to protect life, property, and public infrastructure and to render emergency assistance in furtherance of the orders enacted pursuant to this proclamation.”
The proclamation goes on to say the town has an evolving strategy to address continuity to service and the town has taken measures such as reducing on site staffing by 50 percent in line with directives from the governor’s office.
During this time employees will be informed by their supervisor if they are working on site or off site and what their duties will be.
Members of the water, highway, police and maintenance departments, whether working on site or not, will remain on call 24 hours a day in order to respond to needs associated with their departments.
At this time public access to the town offices and other town properties is also restricted.
The office can be reached by telephone at 315-446-3910.
