Dear SCSD Families:
There has been information circulating regarding the 180-day waiver and its impact on schools across our state, based on Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order for closing. Recently, all school superintendents received the official word from the NY State Education Department on how it will be applied to school districts to qualify for the 180-day waiver. Essentially, to qualify for the waiver, school districts must exhaust any available time, including snow days and vacation days, inclusive of spring break.
Therefore, all school districts must continue to provide remote instruction for students, meals for students, and child care for essential workers every weekday between April 1, 2020 and April 14, 2020, even if the district is scheduled to be on spring break during that time.
I am sure this news will be disappointing to both students, families, and faculty, since many may have had other plans. If you have any questions, please contact your building principals, or contact my office.
All the best to you and your families,
Dr. Jeffrey K. Bryant
Interim Superintendent, Skaneateles Central School District
