Skaneateles Police Chief George E. Davis Memorial Scholarship award goes to Alexandra Flanagan
Alexandra Flanagan, daughter of Thomas and Karen Flanagan of Skaneateles was awarded the Skaneateles Police Chief George E. Davis Memorial Scholarship Award at the 2019 Skaneateles High School commencement ceremony.
Flanagan plans to attend Nazareth College for a bachelor of fine arts in acting.
After college she hopes to work in the NYPD while also pursuing a part time career as an actress.
During her high school years at Skaneateles, Flanagan was a member of the Environmental Club, Envirothon, Interact Club, bell choir, drama club, drum-line, a capella group, chamber choir , madrigal choir, jazz band and film club. Her varsity sports included swimming and track.
For the past four summers Flanagan has worked as a crew member and parking attendant at the Skaneateles Festival.
Flanagan works at Skaneateles Skoops. She is a member of St. Marys of the Lake Church choir.
Flanagan has also volunteered at the Athenaeum in Skaneateles .
The scholarship is awarded each year to a graduating senior who is the son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of a police officer and/or is pursuing a career in law enforcement or in public service sector, as well as one that demonstrates leadership and displays citizenship.
Flanagan’s father Thomas was an sergeant with the NYPD.
Flanagan was chosen by the Davis Family because of her being involved in community and school activities that helps others.
The Davis family believes that by establishing this memorial scholarship fund, the memory and legacy of Chief Davis will remain in hearts and minds year after year.
They were very pleased to award this year’s scholarship to Flanagan and said she displays kindness and caring to others, many of those qualities such as Chief Davis showed his community for many years.
