On Saturday, Oct. 27, the Cazenovia Police Department and Kinney Drugs on Albany Street are partnering to offer the community a drug take back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Anyone who has any controlled and non-controlled medications they are no longer using or have expired can bring them in for safe disposal.
The event is free and open to the public.
Kinney Drugs is also offering a drug take back event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at its Chittenango location at 540 East Genesee St.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back raises awareness for public safety and helps address public health issues. Studies show that prescription drug abuse in the U.S. is at an alarming rate, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.
Many individuals do not realize that medicines that are stored in home medicine cabinets can be highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. In addition, people do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away – both posing potential safety and health hazards. This event aims to provide a safe, convenient, and environmentally responsible means of disposing of these prescription drugs.
