Scouts spend nine days in New Mexico
A crew of seven teenage scouts and four adult leaders from Skaneateles Troop 61 recently returned from a life changing summer trek through the Carson National Forest and Pecos National Park in New Mexico.
During the trek, T61 hiked well over 50 miles over nine days at elevations from 7,500 feet up to maximum of 13,162 feet atop Mt. Wheeler.
During the excursion, T61 day packed to destinations including Sandia Peak, the National Museum of Nuclear Science, the Philmont Scout Ranch, and hiked to Lost Lake and Wheeler Peak (Taos Area).
The troop also took time to just have fun and relax by funyaking down the Rio Grande and fly-fishing on the Red River.
To top off the trip Troop 61 hiked into the backcountry and overnighted at a remote campsite on Stewart Lake.
With beautiful views of the neighboring mountainsides and lake, Troop 61 enjoyed the peaceful tranquility of the area, reminisced, and looked back at all we had accomplished in such a short time.
This was a trip to remember and all were thankful for the experience.
