After a heavy rainstorm Monday night followed by thunder and lightning, a tree in the front of the Carriage House East Apartments complex fell down in the middle of W. Seneca Street in Manlius at around 8 p.m., causing a brief, partial road closure.
Manlius Police were called to the scene at around 7:30 p.m., blocking off a large portion of W Seneca Street and diverting drivers around the road until a little after 8:55 p.m.
Drivers were able to bypass this partial road closure by driving through the Carriage House apartments parking lot.
Manlius DPW crew workers arrived on the scene at around 8:30 p.m., chainsawing the tree into pieces and loading it into a truck, clearing the road in about a half-hour.
In addition to the fallen tree, there were a slew of other weather-related 911 calls made on Monday night, including a utility pole catching fire on Coventry Road North in Manlius, another fallen tree on Highbridge Street, lightening striking a house on Brae Leure Road in Manlius and several power outages throughout the area.
According to National Grid’s power outage map, nearly 2,500 customers lost power in Onondaga County at 7:45 p.m. and 590 customers remained without power at 10 p.m.
