Elbridge Elementary special education teacher named outstanding teacher of the year
Elbridge Elementary School special education teacher Erin Wilson has been named a 2018 outstanding teacher of the year by the Cayuga-Onondaga School Boards Association.
In his letter nominating Wilson for the honor, Elbridge Elementary Principal R.J. Hartwell described her as a change agent and transformational leader who “puts students first and celebrates the diversity among everyone.” He also praised her proficient use of instructional technologies that enhance student engagement in learning and, ultimately, student achievement.
In her role as group facilitator for the school’s instructional support team, Wilson digitized and streamlined the teacher form; regularly calls upon support staff, such as school counselors, physical and occupational therapists, classroom teachers and teaching assistants to support tier 3 interventions; and meets one on one with classroom teachers to review recommended interventions and track student achievement data to make informed instructional decisions.
“Erin shows compassion and respect to all students, whether or not IST recommends an intervention,” Hartwell wrote. “She works collaboratively with colleagues to cultivate the best in student growth and achievement.”
Ms. Wilson has taught at Elbridge Elementary since 2007. She will be honored by the School Boards Association during an awards ceremony on May 31.
