The Friends of Maxwell Memorial Library: Celebrating 25 years
The Friends of Maxwell Memorial Library group is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization which supports and advocates for the library. Formed in 1993, the group sponsors programs, fundraising events, special raffles, and giveaways. The Friends meet about once a month to plan upcoming events and host guest speakers. Most meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 1pm in the Community Room at Maxwell Memorial Library.
The Friends’ 15th Annual Geranium Sale is now underway. It is time to plan colors for your spring gardens! These beautiful summer flowers come in 4.5 inch pots and are available in five colors: red, white, magenta, white-to-rose, and the popular “S.U.” orange is back. Prices are: $4 each, $18 for six, or $32 for a dozen. Order forms are available at the library and on Maxwell Library’s website under the Friends page. Completed order forms and payment (cash or check made out to Friends of Maxwell Library) may be left at the Main Desk during regular library hours. All orders must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 11. Flowers may be picked up on Saturday, May 19 between 9 a.m. and noon at the Camillus Village Hall. Ample free parking is located behind the building.
The Friends have commenced an exciting 25th year. The group sponsored another Chocolate Friends-y raffle in February, and hosted guest speakers Mayor Patricia Butler-Rhoades and West Genesee School District Superintendent Dr. Christopher Brown. The Friends participated in April’s Poem in Your Pocket for National Poetry Month, and offered giveaways for National Library Week (April 8-14). During the month of May, the Friends will participate in the library’s Centennial, and at the Memorial Day Parade in Camillus. This summer, the Friends will once again sponsor summer reading programs and events for children and adults. Stay tuned for other special events and guest speakers come fall, including the Friends’ annual open house and art exhibit.
It is not too late to join the Friends. Being a Friend is a great way to support the library, and you have the option to specify how your dues and donations will be spent. There is also a “Forever Friend” level of $200 (onetime payment). Membership forms and brochures are available at the library.
