St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will host the Donald J. Lohr Memorial American Red Cross Blood Drive from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 in the Social Hall of the church at 210 Hazel St. in the village of Liverpool (at the corner of Vine and Hazel streets). This blood drive is in memory of Don Lohr, who served during his lifetime as St. Paul’s Choirmaster for 52 years, director of New York State Fair bands, director of Liverpool Community Band and the American Legion Band. He taught music at Liverpool Schools for 38 years, receiving the honor of induction to the LHS Fine Arts Hall of Fame for his mentoring inspirations to students.
Lohr was a multiple gallon blood donor who gave well over 40 gallons of blood for the American Red Cross in his lifetime. As he thought giving blood was so important, we hope to have many participants who will give the gift of blood at this drive. The American Red Cross is in urgent need of blood at this time. The American Red Cross will offer the opportunity for regular blood donations as well as the Power Red Cell donation. You can donate every 56 days for Regular Blood Donation or every 112 days for the Power Red Cell Donation.
Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org and enter “Donald” to schedule an appointment.
In light of the recent Las Vegas shootings, The American Red Cross responds with an urgent need for blood: “Our hearts go out to all those who are affected by this tragedy in Las Vegas. After the shooting, the American Red Cross provided additional blood products to local hospitals to help those injured. We have more blood products en route to the Las Vegas area and stand ready to provide blood and blood products as needed in response to this tragedy.
“The Red Cross is grateful for all donors who generously give blood and platelets throughout the country. This tragedy illustrates that it’s the blood already on the shelves that helps during an emergency.
“We know that many people want to help. Eligible individuals can make an appointment to give blood in the coming weeks by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting
redcrossblood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Volunteer blood donors are needed each and every day to help save lives.”
