The Greater Houston Area was hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. About 100,000 homes were damaged, and about 85 percent of those homeowners had no flood insurance. Many of those affected will find it difficult financially to fix their homes.
Operation Northern Comfort will be making a trip Oct. 21 to 29 to help. Volunteers will drive down and back in two days each way. Lodging will be at a church or two in the Houston area with participants sleeping on either cots or air mattresses. All food will be provided in Houston.
Workers will be mucking out and rebuilding walls, insulating, painting and repairing as needed. Skilled workers are always welcome, but a willingness to help is all that’s needed since even the non-skilled will be shown what to do.
The cost of the trip will be $400 per person, but if anyone wishes to fly to Houston, your cost will be $50 for food and lodging. Food costs driving down will be the responsibility of the volunteer. ONC will be keeping the number of volunteers to a maximum of 50 for this trip. It is anticipated that there will be future trips throughout the winter.
