From 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11, the Cicero Fire Department will host its annual Sept. 11 Memorial Service and Open House. This solemn day commemorates the fateful day in 2001 when 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers and 37 Port Authority Police died trying to save nearly 3,000 innocent lives.
Cicero Fire has tried to honor their memories with a memorial service for the past 13 years. The department does this at Station 1 with a ceremony at the Sept. 11 Memorial behind the station. At this event, firefighters will host a brief service at the memorial, static displays of fire memorabilia, tours of the station for the public and (weather permitting) a vehicle extrication demonstration.
This event is open to the public and the department invites those members of the community and neighboring organizations to attend with apparatus. If your business or organization would like to provide a donation for this event (food or beverage) or attend, contact event Chairman Deputy Chief George Barrett at (315) 575-1536 or [email protected].
