Peer-Based Suicide Support Group
Weekly meetings on Wednesdays and Thursdays 25, and 31, 6-7:30 p.m. Free. No registration.
Two Brothers’ Light is a non-profit organization that promotes suicide prevention and awareness. They hold weekly peer-based support groups for individuals affected by suicide and other mental health issues. These meetings are free and open to anyone seeking information on suicide prevention and awareness, alternatives to suicide, or grief support for those affected by suicide. Consultant John Decker of College Assistance Plus helps families research colleges that fit their financial and academic needs. In this workshop for parents and students, he presents real-world solutions for families trying to reduce college costs, regardless of income. He also suggests guidelines for choosing a fitting and marketable major.
Between the Lines Book Club (for adults)

The group reads a variety of genres, from literary fiction to suspenseful bestsellers. Copies of this month’s selection, “The Summer Before the War” by Helen Simonson, and reading guides are available at the desk. All are welcome.

Dream Conversations with Mary Beth Bronk workshops: May 24, 31 and June 7 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Registration is required online mflib.org or 315-673-3221. This six-part workshop will cover Types of Dreams: Week 1: Overview: Dream Recall, Journaling, Dream Sharing methods, Dream Re-entry techniques, Symbols and Discernment. Week 2: Types of Dreams – Communication in Dreams. Week 3: Types of Dreams – Anticipatory Dreams Week 4: Types of Dreams – Pulling Metaphors and Puns. Week 5: Types of Dreams – Visitations. Week 6: Types of Dreams – Exploring and Deconstructing Nightmares.
Crafting Effective Genealogical Research Plans Workshop with Amanda Perrine: Thursday, May 18: 1 to 3 p.m. Registration required at: mflib.org or call 315-673-3221. Researching your family history? Just like with any project, it is important to have a plan before you start researching. A genealogical research plan will save you time and frustration, as well as help knock down those genealogical brick walls. This workshop will walk you through creating a research plan, show multiple examples of research plans, and allow participants to practice writing their own plans. Please register in advance.

Silent Book Club at the Marcellus Free Library on Friday, May 19: 6:30 to 8 p.m. Join us for Central New York’s first Silent Book Club! Bring whatever you are currently reading, a bottle of wine and some friends, then grab a comfy spot and settle in for a quiet evening of reading with friends.
Container Gardening Workshop with Mark Moncavage of Sparrow Flowers and Gardens on Saturday, May 20 starting at noon, $15 materials fee payable the day of the class. Registration is required at mflib.org, or call 315-673-3221. Don’t have time for that large garden? You can use a container of your choice to place on your patio or deck for the entire summer. We will explore the use of summer flowers, both sun and shade, and accent greens to enhance your front porch, or any other special location. It is movable, so you can use it in several areas. All you need to bring is the container, we will provide soil and flowers for a shady or sunny location. Please bring a container of your choice that you will enjoy, no more than 14” diameter at the opening.
The Friends of the Marcellus Free Library Meeting: May 24 at 11:30 a.m. Final plans for Olde Home Days will take place. Please bring a bag lunch. Dessert and beverage will be provided. WANTED – books in good condition for the Book Sale. Donations will be accepted until May 15. The book sale will take place on: Friday, June 2: 4 to 7 p.m. (This is a preview event. Admission cost $5 for the opportunity to look and buy ahead of the regular sale. Friends of the Library members are free). Saturday, June 3: 10 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, June 4: 1 to 5 p.m. Bag Sale: Monday, June 5 through Friday, June 9 during regular library operating hours, $3 a bag (provided). Look for our Annual Spring Basket Raffle! Our fabulous gift baskets will be on display in the library during the month of May. Cathy Stolz is the Marcellus Free Library Artist for May. Cathy Stolz is an award winning and passionate photographer. Having traveled throughout the country, she is always drawn back to the beauty of Central New York with its abundant wildlife, spectacular waterfalls, serene lakes, wondrous gorges, fantastic zoos and many state and county parks. Her show may be viewed during regular library hours.

Books and Beyond: May special events at Fairmount Community Library

This month we are excited to see everyone at our book sale. Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.. Stop in to pick up some things for yourself, your fa.m.ily or friends. We are also celebrating Spring with a birdhouse and bat house giveaway, both made by the Onondaga County Soil and Water Conservation District (all items donated). One entry per person per drawing, come by to enter. The winners will be chosen on May 23.
Stop in for one of our great kids’ progra.m.s to foster reading and connecting with your kids. Little Movers: Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:15 a.m. (an active progra.m. for good walkers, ages 1-3). Creative Kids: Mondays 11:15 a.m. and Thursdays 10:15 a.m. (stories and age-appropriate crafts for preschoolers). Small Steps: Tuesdays 10:15 a.m. (unstructured play for ages 0-2 years). Lego Club: Wednesday, May 17 at 6 p.m. (unstructured Lego play and fun). Siblings are welcome at all progra.m.s. Parents remain with the children to encourage good listening and participation. No registration is required.
