The Village of Cazenovia Tree Commission celebrated Earth Day on Saturday, April 22, with a ceremonial tree planting at Lakeland Park. The installation of an American Hornbeam is part of the comprehensive redesign of the landscape at the park scheduled to begin soon.
“This planting will mark the beginning of the overall plan that has been developed for Lakeland,” said Deputy Mayor Amy Mann. “As it matures, it will enhance the park’s landscape and it is certain to be enjoyed by future generations.”
Joyful Noise, the St. James children’s choir under the direction of Joan Stoker, performed “This Pretty Planet” and “What a Wonderful World” as part of the celebration.
In other tree news in Cazenovia, the village received a young honey locust tree from an anonymous donor to replace the one destroyed last month by vandals. The new tree was installed by the Lincklean House on April 17.
