YMCA’s Across New York to offer ENHANCE Fitness to treat arthritis through exercise and group support
The Auburn YMCA is offering Enhance Fitness, an evidence-based physical activity program proven to increase the physical, mental and social functioning of older adults, particularly those with arthritis.
The New York State Foundation has funded eleven YMCAs statewide to offer the program to YMCA and community members. The Auburn YMCA is offering this program Monday, Wednesday and Fridays beginning at 11;15 and at the Skaneateles YMCA on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays at 11:30.
Research has shown that low intensity physical performed on a regular basis can reduce pain, improve functioning, elevate mood and delay the onset of disability. As an Enhance provider, the Y’s certified staff will offer older adults three, one hour classes per week that include research-based aerobic, strength training, balance and flexibility exercises a that are safe and effective. In addition to physical benefits, the program focuses on fun and social atmosphere that fosters relationships between program participants.
