The Town of Manlius Police Department has announced a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) will be in the area starting on Monday, Nov. 7, 2016 to examine all aspects of the Town of Manlius Police Department’s policy and procedures, management, operations and support staff.
As part of the CALEA on-site assessment agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public informational session at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the Village of Manlius Auditorium, 1 Arkie Albanese Avenue, Manlius.
Those unable to offer comments at this informational session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team may do so by telephone by calling 682-8388 between 1 and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9.
Telephone comments, as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to ten minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Town of Manlius Police Department and its ability to meet standards for re-accreditation are requested to forward their comments to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, Inc. CALEA assessment teams are composed of law enforcement members from similar sized out-of-state agencies. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals and listen to those attending the public information session to ascertain that the Department is in compliance with the standards. The CALEA law enforcement assessors are Colonel Rory Bailey a retire member of the Miami, Ohio, Township Police Department, and Captain Christopher Smith, of the Kokomo, Indiana, Police Department.
The Town of Manlius Police Department received its first law enforcement accreditation in 1996 and received “Flagship” status in 2010, which identifies the agency and its members as exemplary examples of law enforcement service.
