Fall Festival fun at Amberations
By Mary Kay DeVore
Mark your calendars for the Amberations Fall Festival that will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 from 1 to 6 p.m.
This annual community event will take place at the Otisco Lake Community Center adjacent to the Amberations barn at 2223 Amber Road in Marietta.
There is something for all ages and abilities to enjoy during the festivities!
Bring your family and friends to listen to live music throughout the day, visit the animals, use the trails, participate in the duck race, treasure hunt, face painting, raffles and more.
If you’re hungry there will be plenty – choose from pumpkin chili to spanakopita to ice cream. An amazing assortment of baked goods with delicious gluten free cookies are on the menu as well.
The entertainment line-up can’t be beat with the Kambuyu Marimba Ensemble and their unique African Zimbabwe dance music. Harvey Nusbaum has been orchestrating the talent for this event for years and his newest group, The Perennials, really hits the mark. They are a wonderful collaboration of very talented lifelong players including Jacqui McCarthy, Bob Elfenbein and Harvey himself. Jacqui has a stunning voice that masterfully compliments this group’s talents on a variety of instruments. Bob Lyna is a familiar face in the local music scene where he is known for his flawless renditions of folk, blues, country, pop, swing and rock-n-roll.
Amberations is a 501 (c-3) not-for-profit organization with a mission to support mental health by providing opportunities for people of all abilities to impact and interact with the natural environment.
Over the years, visitors from group homes, senior centers, inner city youth, schools, families, and individuals have enjoyed the animals and nature at Amberations to restore balance and contribute to a positive sense of well-being.
Volunteers are the backbone of Amberations and this event is the single largest fundraiser that helps to cover the costs to care for the animals and yearly operating expenses.
Come for the day and you may want to return. Volunteers are always needed in various capacities.
