The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Fayetteville-Owahgena Chapter, met recently at Delphia’s Restaurant in Chittenango for their annual memorial service recognizing DAR members who have passed away throughout the year and to install their new slate of officers for the next three years. Amy Andrzejek, of Hamilton, was reelected as regent of the 110-member chapter for an additional three year period.
For several years, Fayetteville-Owahgena has had individual flags for the two chapters after they merged in 1994. This year a new flag uniting both chapters was purchased and donated to the Fayetteville-Owahgena Chapter by Irene Whittington, in honor of her family’s current four generation membership in DAR. Irene is a resident of Liverpool and has held many positions during her forty-six year membership.
The chapter was challenged to help set a world record in patriotism when the National Society of the DAR staged an official Guinness World Records attempt for “Most letters to military personnel collected in one month.” Under the guidance of our members Linda Willauer, Judy Morningstar and her students of Liverpool High School, the chapter made a significant contribution towards the total 100,904 letters submitted.
