On Friday, June 24, from 3 to 8 p.m. in front of the newly opened Movie Tavern at Township 5 there will be one more special attraction at the Camillus shopping center.
The NASCAR AdvoCare No. 6 Ford Fusion, a retired car that did race on the NASCAR circuit and is driven by Trevor Bayne, will be on hand along with the hauler, a race simulator and staff to address questions about the car.
This event is hosted by Skaneateles resident Lisa Best Wiles, an AdvoCare distributor and associate Mike LaDuke.
“The car travels 200 days a year,” Wiles said. “We were told we could bring it here and it has never been here before. It is really great to be able to have it here.”
With Movie Tavern opening its first location in New York at Township 5, the opportunity to have the NASCAR on hand and at the new theater, just seemed to all fall in place as arrangements were made to get everything organized.
“We are grateful they will let us be there,” Wiles said. “For us this is not a sale event. This is just about having fun and doing something to bring more people out and just have a nice time that is completely free.”
Wiles, who is part of the Wiles family that run Mid-Lakes Navigation, shared that she had never planned to work with AdvoCare.
She had spent her career working as a director of development with charities in the Rochester area.
While she had been an active person through high school and college, Wiles shared that as she entered the workforce, she addressed her stress with food.
“After college life changes,” Wiles said. “I’d get stressed out and I would eat. It helped calm me down. I think that is pretty common.”
About seven years ago, Wiles said she had reached her personal breaking point.
She said she weighed the most she ever had and was ready to break the cycle.
“I was miserable and sad,” Wiles said. “My life felt out of control.”
For her AdvoCare, which offers nutritional and weight-management products helped her make the change she was looking for.
“I was skeptical at first,” Wiles said. “I lost 130 pounds. It changed everything for me. You have to do the work, but it made the difference for me.”
When, she met her future husband, Dan, Wiles made a decision to change her path and along with jumping into the family business, she began working as a distributor for AdvoCare.
The opportunity to host the NASCAR and provide what she hopes will be a fun event for everyone in the local community, embodies much of what Wiles works to accomplish in all she does.
“This is very exciting for me,” Wiles said. “This is just a fun way to give something back. I like being able to help people and this is just another way to help people and give something back.”
