Demolition is underway to make room for a new location for the CVS Pharmacy in the village of Manlius on the corner of Fayette Street and Elmbrook Drive and the project is expected to be complete in the second half of 2016.
CVS Pharmacy is planning to open this new location with a drive-thru prescription pick-up window. A representative from the company’s media relations team said the demolition process for the project began last month after proper demolition permits were received through the Manlius Planning Board. The store will be 13,225 square feet and is expected to open in the later part of 2016.
Three buildings had to be demolished to make room for the new freestanding building, including the building of the former Temple’s Dairy that held the Manlius Bottle and Return that burned in July 2012, the factory buildings of Hollowick Inc. and a rental property on Elmbrook Drive.
Manlius Village Trustee Nancy Pfeiffer said this project was seen as suitable for the village because many residents currently use CVS for their pharmacy needs. Having a drive-thru is permissible for pharmacies and banks with a special permit, said Pfeiffer, which was obtained by the company.
“We look at every project that comes to us with a proposal for a property and look t see what purpose it serves the village,” said Pfeiffer. “A lot of people in the area already use CVS for their prescription needs and we saw it as something that could serve the village.”
The current CVS Pharmacy in the Tops Friendly Markets plaza on 119 W. Seneca St. in Manlius will be closed and operations moved to the new store when it is complete, said Pfeiffer.
