In the first of their two regular-season encounters, the Liverpool girls volleyball team got the better of archrival Cicero-North Syracuse, and it took just three sets.
Last Monday’s match began with the Warriors buzzing through the first set 25-11. Though the Northstars picked up a few more points in the next two sets, Liverpool never let them put together any sort of run, and took the next two sets by 25-16 and 25-11 margins.
Julia Flohr earned 17 assists, feeding it to a well-balanced Warriors front line. Lexi McLaggan and Julia Mumpton each had seven kills and three blocks, combining for five aces, too, as Karlie King got six kills and five digs. Amelia Bartier contributed four kills as Samantha Wolf earned 15 digs.
On C-NS’s side, Samantha Ciciarelli needed 17 digs to keep points alive in front of Kira Kullman (four kills) and Sharlene Richards (three blocks) as Kayla Tutt had three kills, three blocks and two digs. Kullman finished with six digs.
While the Northstars have to wait until Oct. 21 to get a second shot at Liverpool, in the meantime it rebounded Wednesday by topping Henninger 25-11, 25-20, 25-6.
More than a set’s worth of points came from aces – 28 in all. Tutt had seven of those aces, plus 11 assists, with Richards getting six aces and six assists. Barry added four aces as Kullman got three aces and a team-best six kills. Mallory Eymer got five kills and Ciciarelli picked up three aces.
Against another city foe, Corcoran, Liverpool rolled past the Cougars 25-5, 25-17, 25-17 on that same Wednesday night. Flohr had five kills and upped her total to 20 assists as 10 different Warriors earned at least one kill. Mumpton, McLaggan and Katie Boak each got four kills, with Wolf earning five digs.
