Cazenovia’s girls soccer team, coming off a narrow 2-1 defeat to Marcellus on Sept. 12, bounced back last Monday at Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, shutting out the Rebels 4-0 to get head coach Kassie Kleine her first victory following an 0-4-1 start.
Saige Ackermann and Casey Crawford both had big nights, with Ackerman getting two goals and one assist and Crawford adding a goal and two assists. Chloe Willard also scored, with Cazenovia dominating the flow of play, taking 14 shots to APW’s one.
In Thursday’s trip to Hannibal, the Lakers prevailed again, but it required overtime to subdue the Warriors 6-4. A wild first half saw the two sides play to a 3-3 draw, but then no one scored in the second half.
During the 20 required minutes of overtime, though, Cazenovia roared back to life, doubling its total to offset a Hannibal goal. Jamie Joseph scored twice as Crawford added a goal and two assists. Brenna Hughes and Hannah Scanlon both had one goal and one assist, with Madeline Gavitt also converting.
Cazenovia had a far easier time of it in Saturday’s 6-0 shutout over Camden, though that came in the second half as a 1-0 margin mushroomed thanks to Crawford’s surge that included two goals and an assist on Madeline Gavitt’s tally on the Lakers’ first three scoring plays.
Then Crawford converted again midway through the second half to earn the hat trick, with Ackermann and Joseph securing late goals and Ackermann joining Gavitt in the assist column.
