The mayoral race between former North Syracuse village trustees Gary Butterfield and Chuck Henry was too close to call on Election Night.
Just 10 votes separated the two candidates after the polls closed at 9 p.m. June 16, with Republican Butterfield pulling in 274 votes and Henry, a Democrat, at 264. Village Clerk Dianne Kufel said 49 applications were filed for absentee ballots. Those votes will likely have to be counted before a winner can be declared.
Two trustee seats were also up for grabs in North Syracuse; those went to Democrats Diane Browning with 320 votes and Pat Gustafson with 287 votes. Republicans Paul Linnertz, an incumbent trustee, and Jack Gaiser netted 229 and 211 votes, respectively.
Liverpool candidates unopposed
Voters in the village of Liverpool also headed to the polls Tuesday. Candidates for mayor and two trustee seats ran unopposed. Gary White remains mayor with 85 votes, while Trustee Dennis Hebert earned 73 votes and newcomer Christina Fadden Fitch takes over for the departing Bob Gaetano with 82 votes.
There are 1,519 registered voters in the village of Liverpool. No independent candidates filed petitions to run for office with the village clerk by this year’s May 12 deadline. Democrats have not fielded a candidate for village office since 2001.
