Gary Butterfield has announced his candidacy as mayor of the village of North Syracuse.
Butterfield has served as a village trustee since 2005. Running on the same ticket are current Trustee Paul Linnertz, who is seeking to retain his seat, and Jack Gaiser, who seeks the other open trustee position. All three are Republicans.
According to a release from Butterfield, all three have lived in the village for more than 30 years. Their platform includes the following goals for the village:
- Creating a walkable/bikeable village
- Developing functional crosswalks
- Improving the Chestnut Street and Church Street corridor
- Extending sidewalks
- Improving road shoulders
Last month, Democrat Chuck Henry announced that he was seeking the mayor’s seat, while Diane Browning and Pat Gustafson were running as trustees. Current Mayor Mark Atkinson is retiring.
Village elections take place Tuesday, June 16.
