Both track and field teams from Cicero-North Syracuse would find themselves in contention during last Friday’s John Arcaro Invitational at Baldwinsville’s Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
And the boys Northstars would finish in the top spot, earning 116.33 points to outdistance a field of 19 other teams, as the hosts from Baldwinsville finished second with 65 points.
Mark Hentges, continuing to dominate competition in the pole vault, won here by clearing 13 feet 6 inches, just below his season high of 13’9”. Ryan Bristow was third, topping 11 feet, and Mitchell Brown cleared 10’6” for fifth place.
Tyler Mosher got another victory in the shot put, throwing it 47’3” to beat West Genesee’s Josh Mattice (45’9”), while Ross Mathewson finished third with a toss of 44’2”. In the discus, Mathewson took sixth place, throwing it exactly 120 feet.
George Reader claimed second place in the triple jump with a leap of 40’11”, just behind Indian River’s Elijah Franklin (41’3”), while also clearing 6’1” in the high jump for third place and getting a fifth-place long jump of 18’6”. Nick Antonello finished sixth (5’8”) in the high jump.
On the oval, Ed Mahana pulled away to win the 400-meter hurdles in 57.96 seconds, the only time under a minute, and was a close second (15.37 seconds) to ESM’s Jeremy McGrath (15.35 seconds) in the 110 high hurdles.
C-NS won the 4×400 relay, where Allen Garnes, Zach Kennedy, Matt Williams and Jared George posted a time of 3:31.39, just ahead of B’ville (3:32.58) for that top spot. George was fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.56 seconds), with Kennedy fifth (52.80 seconds) and Williams sixth (52.82 seconds). Garnes also took fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:02.04, with Evan Tracy (2:03.75) sixth.
Tracy, Andrew Bearkland, Eric Bowen and Paul Dehm finished second (8:29.57) to B’ville (8:24.75) in the 4×800 relay, while Matt Kilian, Billy Moore, Ryan Massena and Quest Ford got to seventh place in the 4×100 in 47.15 seconds.
Bearkland made his way to second place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:20.17 behind Mexico’s Jacob Zedack (10:10.83), while Sam Barber was second in the 3,200-meter run in 9:58.51, only trailing West Genesee’s David Leff, who won in 9:54.91. Joe Tricarico (10:31.49) was sixth as Zach Wagner was seventh in the mile and Kilian seventh in the 200-meter dash.
In the girls portion of the Arcaro meet, C-NS made its way to fourth place out of 17 teams, earning 56 points, while Tully (94 points) beat Skaneateles (86 points) for top honors.
Brittany House cleared 5 feet in the high jump, second to Tully’s Ellen Jaworski (5’1”) by one inch, while Cassandra Baldwin (4’10”) was fourth. Again, a single inch was the difference as Javielle Fanizzi, in the long jump, went 15’11”, but B’ville’s Hailey Couchman won with 16 feet.
Cheyanna Colin had a second-place time of 17.06 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, with Baldwin fifth (17.16 seconds) and House sixth (17.26 seconds). Shayla Webb made it to third place in the triple jump, going 32’5 ½”. Destiny Monica threw the shot put 35 feet for second place behind Nottingham’s Shayna Santarellie-Hansen (35’8”), with Kierrah Butler (31’4”) in fourth place.
Sarah Wicks, in the 3,000-meter run, gained fourth place in 12:16.83. Annina Marullo got fifth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:03.53, with Haley Pestle 10th. Madison Gross was sixth in the 2,000-meter steeplechase in 8:33.90. Kiana Garcia took eighth in the discus.
Liverpool, meanwhile, went to the Loucks Games in White Plains, where the Warriors’ boys 4×800 relay team of Dan Muldoon, Dylan McCarthy, Nick LeClair and Connor Buck finished in 7:54.12, the best time in Section III this spring in that event.
Ben Petrella ran the mile in 4:20.71 and the 3,200 in 9:14.67, with Muldoon going 1:58.11 in the 800, ahead of McCarthy (1:59.21). Brandon Mayfield had times of 11.70 seconds in the 100 and 24.20 seconds in the 200 as David Lewis cleared 11’6” in the pole vault. Michael Mahan ran the 400 sprint in 51.57 seconds and Justin Rivera covered the 400 hurdles in 1:04.02.
