Among area boys track and field teams that saw action last week, Westhill-Bishop Ludden went first, meeting Cazenovia last Tuesday, and won that meet, pulling out a 76-66 victory as Jordan Roland led the way.
Roland went 39 feet 3 inches in the triple jump, and his high jump clearance of 6’2” beat out Cazenovia’s Walker Nichols (5’10”), who had claimed the long jump and 110 high hurdles for his side.
Chris Pullano topped 10’6” in the pole vault, part of a 1-2 finish with Mike King (10 feet). Stephen Bailey and Xavier Fleurinor both crossed the line in 54.3 seconds in the 400-meter dash, with Bailey also second in the 800-meter run and Fleurinor second to Nichols in the 110 hurdles.
King helped Westhill-Ludden get a first-place time of 8:46.8 in the 4×800 relay ahead of Cazenovia’s 8:52.3. Garnet Remillard took second in the mile in 4:45.1 to Cazenovia’s Sean Satchwell (4:43 flat) as Will Ringwood was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.1. Donovan Whipple was second in the shot put (42’2 ½”) and 200-meter dash (25.2 seconds).
A day later, Solvay earned its own victory, 85-55, over Institute of Technology Central, largely because it won five of six field events.
Dan Hatch, clearing 10’6” in the pole vault, began that charge, with Jacob Hook throwing the shot put 43’5”and Robert Stafford unleashing a 124-foot discus throw. Garrett Lee won the long jump, going 19’7”, and Lamar Flood had a first-place triple jump of 31’1”.
Other than Jordan Devereaux’s 200-meter title in 24.1 seconds, ITC won all of the individual races. But the Bearcats swept the relays, Devereaux helping in the 4×100 (45.7 seconds) and 4×400 (5:04.8) as Solvay also claimed the 4×800 in 12:38.7.
Jordan-Elbridge, whose girls team lost to Altmar-Parish-Williamstown by a single point, managed to win the boys meet by that same one-point margin, holding on to prevail 70-69, and then finished second (61 points) to Skaneateles (101 points) in Saturday’s Weedsport Invitational, with Marcellus (51 points) grabbing third place.
Brad Marshall gave the Eagles a victory in the shot put, heaving it 44’9 ¾”, while Justin Quinn took third place (39’11”) in that event, and also was fourth (104’10”) in the discus.
Tyler Jackson, Pat Fordyce, Ethan Kinney and Nate Hollis were second (3:49.39) to Skaneateles (3:45.12) in the 1,600 sprint medley relay, with Jackson also sixth in the 3,200 behind Marcellus’ Joe Riccardi, who gained third place in 10:40.44.
Kinney was third in the 800 in 2:12.57 as he, along with Zach Rink, Anthony Ortiz and Hunter Simmons again second in the 4×400 in 4:00.86, again with the Lakers (3:53.48) in front of them.
The Eagles were also fourth in the 4×800 and fifth in the 4×100 as Rink, on his own, edged out teammate Yuya Ota, 1:03.51 to 1:03.83, in the 400 hurdles for fourth place and got to third place in the 110 hurdles in 17.38 seconds.
Marcellus star Noah Townsend, who was fourth in the 110 hurdles (17.40 seconds), won the pole vault, clearing 11’6”, a foot better than the rest of the field, and then topped 6 feet in the high jump for another victory as no one else topped 5’8”.
The Mustangs also had Pat McGuane run the mile in 4:52.47, gaining second place, and Mike Abbott finish fourth (36’2”) in the triple jump, where J-E’s Nick Parkolap grabbed seventh place. Mike Provvidenti took sixth in the long jump, going 16’8”.
West Genesee ran straight into Cicero-North Syracuse, taking a 120-21 defeat to the Northstars. David Leff did get a first-place finish in the 800 in 2:07.2, but the Northstars won every other event, George Reader sweeping the long jump (19’7 ¼”), triple jump (39’8 ¾”) and high jump (5’10”) to lead his side.
During Friday’s John Arcaro Invitational at Baldwinsville, West Genesee picked up 26 points to finish ninth in a 20-team field, led by Leff, who in the 3,200 roared to victory in 9:54.91, as he and C-NS’s Sam Barber (9:58.81) had the only times under 10 minutes.
