With the regular season winding down, the Skaneateles boys tennis team renewed its rivalry with Marcellus last Friday afternoon and lost, 3-2, to the Mustangs.
Prior to that, the Lakers climbed back to the .500 mark (4-4) last Monday afternoon, hosting Onondaga at Austin Park and earning a 4-1 victory over the Tigers.
Luca Kunz dropped the only point in singles, falling to Ryan Cass 6-2, 6-0, but Ethan Weldon made up for that with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lauren Aguirre as Connor Driscoll defeated Daniel Kelly by those exact same scores.
Both doubles matches ended in straight sets, too. Connor Jones and Anthony Panasci prevailed over Malcolm Lombardi and Zach Hay 6-2, 6-1, as did Ryan Bayly and Grant Thompson, who beat Corey Guyder and Tayler Thunderstone 6-1, 6-1.
Then the Lakers fought past Westhill 3-2 on Thursday afternoon. Two of the points came from singles, where Weldon beat Noah Rolince 6-2, 6-1 and Connor Driscoll claimed a 6-0, 6-4 decision over Kersey Kerseyu.
Though Zach Driscoll lost, 6-2, 6-7, 10-7 to Colin Catone, and Jones and Panasci fell to Brian Sheridan and Matt Zabycz 6-2, 6-2, Bayly and Lombardi paired up for the third and winning point, beating Ballard Ballard and Sabastian Ramirez 6-3, 6-0.
The battle with Marcellus followed, and again it proved close. Benson and Jones turned back Con Clarke and Noah LaFever 6-0, 6-0, with Baily and Lawson just as dominant in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Connor Lundgren and Shawn Manke.
Marcellus countered with a singles sweep, Driscoll falling to Andrew Kimmer 6-2, 6-2 as Weldon lost to Steve Larison 6-3, 6-2 and Kunz had a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Ian LaFever.
